I remember speaking with a client of another insurance company as they were running through the range of emotions that comes after receiving a rejection letter.
After reviewing the situation, the problem was clear. They didn’t purchase the coverage they needed because they didn’t understand their risks and frankly their agent probably didn’t either.
Take a moment and consider any churches near you. Do any of them have a daycare, school, or do they have athletic facilities? Some do, some don’t, and they’re all unique. So are their exposures and insurance needs.
When I review an insurance policy for a church with a daycare, I almost always find gaps in their coverage.
The most common gap I find is while they have medical coverage – if someone were to get injured at the church, the children at the daycare are all excluded from the coverage because they don’t have daycare medical. It isn’t expensive coverage (usually a couple dollars per child a year) and one claim can more than make it worthwhile.
The key to avoiding denials is understanding your needs BEFORE you experience a claim. That’s why you need an agent who understands your unique needs and has products designed to cover them.
Nonprofits and churches have unique needs and exposures. They are not very well represented in commercial policies from most insurers.
